Quotes…to inspire, to thank, to express love and joy.

In grade school and through college I kept a quote book.  I filled it with quotes, poems, words and short descriptions of memorable moments.  I used it to inspire myself, to keep motivated, or to remind myself of a special moment, time or place.  I found that if I couldn’t describe a feeling or sentiment myself, I could find the perfect quote to help convey it.  I would gift everything with quotes.  From adding a quote to a book for a friend to a wedding basket of full of gifts…all tagged with different quotes. It was a great way to personalize a gift while conveying your expressions of congrats, love, and happiness.

In the same light, quotes are a perfect way to convey the joys of the wedding occasion,  capture a sentiment, or give thanks to your guests.  Find the perfect quote to include in your invitation, wedding program, or thank you card.   Use a different quote at each guests’ table at the reception, quotes with your wedding favors or in your final wedding album.  Here are just a few to get you started:

On this day, I will marry my friend. The one who shares my life, my love and my dreams.   –Anonymous

Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit. Ah, yes, what would life be, if not for love. –Kahlil Gibran

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life- to be with one another in silent unspeakable memories– George Eliot

If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you. –Winnie the Pooh

Tere bin / Besides you
Sanu sohnia / My love
Koi hor nahio labhna / I shan’t find another
Jo dave/ Who’ll give
Ruh nu sakun / Peace to my soul
– Rabbi Shergill

Weekend Project: DIY Cardboxes

Looking for a creative project? Make a receiving box for all of your un-boxed gifts.  It’s simple. Tie in your color scheme and show your style! All you need is bit of inspiration and a few supplies.  Make it traditional, modern or bring both elements together.  You decide!

Photos by Shaadi -n- Style

Supplies:
Hat boxes or various sized gift boxes
Fabric
Ribbon
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Spray adhesive
Scissors
Box cutter or knife
-

Step 1: Cut envelope slot. Using box cutter cut a slot for envelopes in center of lid.  Many wedding cards tend to be over-sized so be sure that your slot is appropriately sized!

Step 2:  Cut fabric pieces. If using a circular hat box (similar to above), cut out 2 fabric pieces slightly larger than surface area of top of the box.  Cut pieces should hang over the edge and reach lip of the top cover.  Cut a slot slight smaller that the envelope slot (made in the previous step) in one of the cut circular fabrics.  This will be your top cover.  Cut third piece enough to cover circumference (or sides) of the hat box.  This should be a long rectangular piece.  Easiest way to measure?  Mark a starting point and roll the box along your fabric until you reach the same starting point again.

Step 3: Glue. Using hot glue gun adhere both pieces- one to top and second to bottom of the box.  Be sure to line up cut area with envelope opening.  Fold down and adhere (and up- for bottom piece) edges including into envelope opening.  Finally, wrap fabric around box to cover all sides (and folded ends of the bottom piece).

Step 4: Cover up and embellish. Finish off by covering all seams and edges with ribbon. Embellish, add some sparkle, and you are done!

Above I used gold ribbons and habla. Gold ribbon, expensive here in the US, is definitely much less expensive in India.  If you happen to make a trip, find the local sewing shop.  It will have meters of ribbons at your disposal!  I had such a great time picking out ribbon which, though at the time had no intended purpose, came into good use!

Have left over fabric?  Use it to decorate a thali for the wedding..or two.
